Tips on Tree Sap Removal
Almost nothing can be more annoying than getting tree sap on your car or other surfaces, which is why it’s important to know about tree sap removal. Getting tree sap on your car’s paint and windows is especially troublesome, but there are ways to remove tree sap without having to take your car to get a new paint job.
The following tips will help you with tree sap removal from your car.
- The first thing you should do is to ensure that the area that has the tree sap is completely clean of dust, debris and other dirt. If there is dust or dirt in the area it may scratch the paint as you are trying to remove the tree sap.
- Now you will need to find a soft cloth; this can be a waxing cloth, soft towel, or any type of cloth that will not scratch the pain on your car.
- Next you will need some kind of substance to help with the tree sap removal; there are several different things that you can use that will work well, such as Goof Off, WD – 40, or Bug and Tar Remover. Any of these products should be fairly easy to find at your local hardware store and they are not too expensive.
- Before you begin the tree sap removal, use a little of the product on a non visible area of your car to ensure that it will not damage the paint; although they are said to be safe for all car finishes, it’s better to check for yourself.
- Whichever product you choose to use you will want to apply a small amount to the sap, as well as the cloth that you will be using. Now you will need to rub the sap area with the cloth, be aware that this will take a few minutes and the sap may not come off right away. As you are rubbing the sap spot, continue to apply the product you are using, as it is needed.
- Continue to rub the sap spot; the purpose of doing this is to get the sap to come off of the pain and stick to the cloth that you are using. One important thing to remember is that you do not want to use a clean area of the towel for each sap spot removal; the reason for this is that once you have a spot on the cloth that has sap on it, if you continue to use the same area to clean with it will actually help pull the sap from the car. For tree sap removal you will use the dirty part of the cloth in order to get the sap off of the car as quickly and easily as possible.
- After you removed all of the sap from the car you will next want to wash it and apply a coat of wax. Tree sap removal can be harsh on a car’s paint so this step is important.
Along with following these steps for tree sap removal from your car there are also some things that you should avoid doing. You should never wash your car before you start the tree sap removal process, this could damage your paint, plus it can make removing the sap more difficult.
Remember that you do not have to rub hard on the sap; if you clean with the used area of the cloth the collected tree sap will do most of the work for you. Also, you should never leave the product that you are using on your car for an extended period of time, as it may damage the paint if left on too long.
If you are finding that tree sap removal from your car is particularly difficult, you can opt to take it to a detail shop for cleaning, which would probably be the safest method of removing the tree sap, but not the most economical.
